Harvested-to-order leaf from a healthy psychotria cartha (a close relative to the psychotria viridis, but much hardier and more resilient. This specimen was grown under semi-open air conditions (i.e., tolerant of low humidity.) Psychotria viridis is the primary source of the psychedelic tryptamine found in ayahuasca.
To propagate, cut leaf carefully along the midrib using sterilized scissors; bury each half, midrib down, in clean soil with perlite. Keep moist until the first shoots appear; keep humid until sprouts are over an inch tall. Separate and transplant into a new pot when two inches tall. Under the right conditions, one leaf may give rise to multiple shoots, continuing even for months after planting.
Gnostic Garden is the pecuniary wing of a larger series of efforts toward conservation, education, and advocacy. In making ethnomedicinal plants available to both hobbyist and serious growers across the country, I hope to maintain a dialogue that ensures these plants and more remain available to all.
